Shipping oversized cargo over almost 9,000 kilometers is a great challenge. Especially if delivery requires four different types of transport equipment...
Recently, a client of international transportation and logistics service provider AsstrA-Associated Traffic AG took advantage of a modern and reliable solution for transporting an oversized crane from the Polish city of Kwidzyn to Taiwan. The project was carried out by the Gdańsk branch office of AsstrA Polska Sp. z o.o., whose experts oversaw shipping the cargo from Kwidzyn to the port of Gdansk in Poland, stuffing and securing the cargo in containers, and sea freight from there to Taiwan.
“It took over a month to ship this 30-ton crane from Poland to Taiwan, which is around 9,000 kilometers away from Kwidzyn. It was not a typical project for two main reasons. First of all, shipping the crane required special precautions as it was burnt out and was going be renovated after arrival. Secondly, the transport project involved four different means of transport equipment: a flartrack container, standard containers, a semi-trailer platform, a standard truck.. The success of the entire project depended on making the right equipment choices at every step of the journey,” emphasizes Janusz Buliński, Head of Sea Freight at AsstrA in Gdańsk.
In order to provide the highest level of the cargo security, specialists from the corporate group used the highest quality equipment. In order to minimize customer costs, the AsstrA team decided to use three different container types.
“The crane was loaded onto a flat rack container. Its counterweights went into a standard 20-foot container, and the crane arm into a 40HC container. Shipping it all around 9,000 kilometers to Taiwan was not easy! But thanks to the coordinated work and experience of AsstrA specialists, the client received all the cargo on time — and a pleasant, professional experience working with AsstrA,” continues Janusz Buliński.
