Oversized cargo includes a wide range of freight types that differ in their technical characteristics, configuration, and scope. They include mining and quarry equipment, vehicles, special equipment, construction equipment and much more. The criteria for assigning goods to this category are established by the road traffic rules of each state.
The following standards are established for road transportation: the dimensions of a vehicle with a load can not exceed 4 meters in height, 2.55 meters in width, and 20 meters in length. The maximum permissible weight varies, depending on the number of axles, from 18 to 32 tons for a single vehicle or 28 to 44 tons for road trains. If at least one of the above parameters exceeds the norm, the transportation is qualified as oversized and subject to special regulations.
The need for special regulation is due to several reasons. Firstly, the transit of a vehicle with oversized cargo is associated with technical limitations of the road.
